University life

Just some photos of how my uni looks like. And I’m just happy to be far far away from town to enjoy the tranquil environment. Will repost when I shoot more of them.

University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus

- From now on, Every weekday morning, I will be greeted by you, this white building, green green grass everywhere, a calm and beautiful lake, morning mist, and not to forget Broga’s wonderful sunrise =)
- Every time they just makes me happier, more relaxing and looking forward for a good study day. ^^

Its actually quite upsetting watching friends leaving Malaysia one by one. But still, we wish Wei Kuang all the best in his future studies over there and hope to meet you again when you’re back here. :)

Hello tiny fella!

This tiny little thingy visited my house few weeks ago through a fenced window. I’m lucky that it was fenced up to prevent bugs and mosquitos to invade my room. Initially, this tiny thing looks friendly, i thought it just lost its way and went near my window, quickly, I grabbed my camera, and tried to capture some shots of it, but it flew away, nothing productive for first attempt.

Second day, I noticed it came back again, then, I did the same thing, grabbed my camera, and *chik chak, chik chak * shoot a series of it, but most of them are not good shots, first, it was isolated by the fence, second, it moved very fast. After some time, I get bored of it, and left it alone.

Third day, I saw it again, at the same spot, I wondered why it came back everyday? I think there’s something not right with that tiny thingy. then suddenly, I saw the corner of the window, there’s a small lump of thing, like a bee nest, wow, to my surprise, I realized it was trying to build a nest there. To avoid any further problem, I decided to ‘shoooe’ it away by sprinkle some water to it. And yes, my attempt succeed, it flew away and never came back. So, goodbye tiny fella, it looks scary, but well, it didn’t harm me, and thanks for giving me a chance to capture beautiful portrait for you. See ya!

A short review on Brickfields and Little India street session

This is my fourth street photography session with my usual friend that accompany me all the time. I would like to take this opportunity to share and write a short summary on this outing to make it more memorable for myself. This time, We decided Brickfields and Little India as our target area and hoping to be another fruitful session. Little India is a unique and wonderful place to capture many colourful moments along the street, wet morning market, alley, shop lots which contradict to the nearby brickfields that is an area well-known to have a lot of blind people there. Me and my friend went there early in the morning and successfully capture some early morning street scenes there until mid noon, then we end the session with joy and satisfaction. So, I’ve picked few shot from my set and shared here and hope to get some valuable comments so that I could improve more on my skill and knowledge.

The coolest Scavenger I’ve ever seen

As we’ve just walked out from KL sentral to the main street, we were greeted with this cool looking scavenger, and without any hesitation, I took this photo of him.

This scene shouldn’t be unfamiliar to Malaysian, as this is our Malaysian typical grocery store. You can find your foods, magazines, newspaper, junk foods, cigarette and all sort of stuff within here.

As we continue walking, we saw a morning wet market and I thought that it should be an interesting place for some great photos, so, without thinking twice, we headed in and took some satisfied photos. This was the first time I asked people’s permission to take their photo on the street, it was a great leap for myself to have the guts to ask permission to shoot their photo. Some don’t mind, but some refuse to let me take their photos especially old aunty. I was glad that I made the first step.

She have no choice, but to kill to earn a living

A fish stall that were selling hundreds of fish from small fishes to sharks. They have no choice, but to slaughter and kill.

A priceless grateful expression

The priceless grateful expression were written on this old granny’s face when a customer decided to buy her veges.

He was preparing his ikan bilis in the early morning while entertaining his customer.

Then, after walked and explore few streets, we’ve decided to head back to brickfields and Little india for some shots. We’re expecting some different results we can get because little india is still under renovating process and making the road one way only.

Appreciate every moment when you’re still visible
- A blind using its ear to listen to the phone’s key pad sound to dial his phone

A blind man tried to called someone by listening to the beep sound when pressing the handphone. I was very sad when I saw this kind of situation, pity them for being unable to see these beautiful yet so cruel and realistic world. We should appreciate and be grateful that when we still have the ability to see things around us, important peoples around us, and this colourful world.

Pity the homeless one

The homeless ones. Although Malaysia have improved very well on culture, economy, and society across these 50 years, but till today, we can still see there’re some unfortunate ones that doesn’t even have a home to stay. Every night shivering out there and starving for food, with no one that care and love for them, how hard could our life be when comparing ours to theirs?

Finally, we end our session with a MCD as lunch and head home with another great experience that can’t be earned through any books or articles. Looking forward for next outing again that make me feel alive with photography. Street is just like a mysterious box that you don’t know what’s in there, you cant expect what will you get every time, it’s just like a training ground for some candid shots, giving you the opportunity to see the real world, real society, how people treats you physically and mentally when they saw your big camera, so, surprises never ends on streets.
